Case interview workshop by McKinsey & Co. AssociateMBA >MBA Studen

Mr. Jiang candidly discussed the problem solving technique and conducted a mock interview session to demonstrate its application. Setting the perfect tone at the start, Mr. Jiang ingeniously introduced the recruitment strategy of consulting companies by framing a case and solved it by involving the audience in the discussion. He laid emphasis on four qualities that consulting companies look for in a candidate- Problem solving, Interpersonal skills, Drive for excellence and leadership skills making an impact on all the stakeholders. He cited an interesting fact that the consulting recruiters look for above average performance in candidates in at least one of this qualities, with existing consultants as benchmark, to help the consulting firm grow in long run.
He also advised potential candidates that the inductive skills are as much important as deductive skills in a problem solving case during an interview.

In the second half of the session, Mr. Jiang conducted a mock case interview with one of the CEIBS MBA 2015 candidate. He introduced a short problem solving case and led the interviewee in the intended direction by breaking down the case into different levels. He took questions from the audience and provided feedback at each level of case-interview simultaneously. This session was very fruitful not only for the interviewee but also for the audience providing interesting insights.

At last, Mr. Jiang shared his personal experiences at McKinsey and Co. and described different career tracks inside the consulting companies. This was followed by a Q&A session where he satiated the queries of the students graciously.
